Cyber4AllSTAR presents the topic of green cybersecurity at forums in Plovdiv and Sofia

In 2024, the European Digital Innovation Hub Trakia launched a survey on the topic among members of its innovation ecosystem with a working hypothesis on “green cybersecurity” as a practice to protect digital systems and data with minimal environmental impact through energy efficient technologies, circular economy principles and renewable energy powered infrastructures. In the course of the study, carried out under the Cyber4ALL STAR project with the financial support of the EU Digital Europe Programme and the INEIDIT 2021-2027, it became clear that ‘green cybersecurity’ is relevant to other systems in organisations beyond digital, and that the diversity of practices for sustainable digitisation and securing a safe digital transition goes far beyond the previously defined domains.

The feedback loop of the ecosystem of EDIH Trakia covers 18 sectors of social and economic life, which are defined on the basis of the self-identification of the members of the hub ecosystem. These sectors are: “Security and Defence”; “Local Government”; “Non-Government”; “Insurance and Finance”; “Tourism and Leisure”; “Public Administration”; “Transport and Logistics”; “Healthcare and Life Sciences”; “E-commerce and Marketing”; “Industrial Manufacturing”; “Information and Communication Technology; Education and Science; Critical Infrastructure; Creative Industries and Media; Law and Regulation; Accounting and Finance; Biotechnology and Smart Agriculture; Deep Tech.

In each of these areas, 6 best practices and recommendations for “green digitalization” and “green cybersecurity” are summarized (the distinction between which is conditional and a matter of secondary feedback analysis). These practices and recommendations have been shaped into 36 so-called “awareness-raising” video sessions for subsequent dissemination to stakeholders and are available online and in the process of dissemination at the time of publication of the report. The video-sessions are disseminated in the framework of monthly thematic awareness-raising events called “European Digital Innovation Days” (EDIH Days) organised by EDIH Trakia in different regions of the country, with different sectoral focus, in the period November 2024 – December 2025.

On May 08th and 09th, GATE Institute will be hosting two webinars on the presentation of the “green cybersecurity” video sessions as follows:

  • May 08, 17:30 – 19:00: Cybersecurity B2B & B2C webinar “Opportunities for business partnerships in the field of “green cybersecurity” in key sectors of the economy“;
  • May 09, 18:00 – 19:30: Financial Engineering webinar “Financing green cybersecurity projects in key sectors of the economy”.

The webinars take place in the framework of the “European Digital Innovation Days in Education“. The events are aimed at universities, public administrations, innovation and technology research centres, organisations working in education and training, as well as innovative companies developing digital and technological solutions in the field. Opportunities will be provided to discuss new trends and challenges for educational institutions related to digitalization and the implementation of new technologies, as well as the introduction of new training programs adequate for the rapid digital and technological development.

On 23.04.2025, the Association “Scientific and Technical Unions with the House of Science and Technology – Plovdiv”, together with the Evrika Foundation and with the kind cooperation of higher and secondary schools, institutes and companies from the South Central Region, organized in Plovdiv, presently at the House of Science and Technology and online, its annual National Youth Forum “SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION, BUSINESS” – 2025. Students, young scientists and professionals participated. The moderator was prof. Ivaylo Staribratov from Plovdiv University “Paisii Hilendarski”.

The thematic session “Information Technologies” was attended by Dr. Hristian Daskalov and Assoc. Zlatogor Minchev from the management of EDIH Trakia. Dr. Daskalov presented the topic of green cybersecurity and the 36 ‘awareness-raising’ sessions, which generated considerable interest in the forum audience. Opportunities for interaction with other recent developments in the field of green technologies were also evident, such as that of the “Online Energy Efficiency Calculator” presented by the Green Synergy Cluster.

The participation of EDIH Trakia in research forums has traditionally resulted in scientific articles and communications on key aspects of the work of the Cyber4AllSTAR project. These articles have been published in reputable journals and magazines in Bulgarian and English.

The publication on the topic “green cybersecurity” is available to the general public both in the respective conference journal and on the EDIH Trakia website, similarly to the other academic articles of the Hub:
